Japanese sika deer(ニホンジカ)

Overview

Sika deer (Cervidae family) has been an essential hunting fauna since the Paleolithic. It is distributed in the forest and grasslands of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu and the surrounding islands.

Male sika deer body length ranges from 90cm to 190cm, height ranges from 70cm to 130cm, and weight from 50kg to 130kg. Females are slightly smaller. In addition, male sika deer inhabiting Hokkaido have an average body length of 150cm, a height of 100cm, and a weight of over 130 kg, while females weigh about 80kg. Although there is a difference in size, there is not much difference in morphology among sika deer.
