Asiatic black bear(ツキノワグマ)

Overview

Asiatic black bear (Ursidae family) is found in the mountainous areas of Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu, but is nearly extinct in Kyushu. Adult male bears are 110-130 cm in length, 50-60 cm in height, and 70 kg in weight, while females are around 60 kg. In Hokkaido, large brown bears belonging to the northern group inhabit the area, males measuring 173-202 cm in length and 119-175 kg in weight, and females 131-169 cm in length and 50-115 kg in weight.
