Introduction of Exhibits of the Nara Palace Site Museum-- Furnishings at the Palace Reconstruction Display Room --

The Cobalt-blue Glass Cup became a topic of the Exhibition of Shōsō-in (treasures house) held this year after an interval of 16 years. The Nara Palace Site Museum displays a range of treasures of Shōsō-in (they are all replicas, though) in as interior decorations in the royal space including the bedroom, study, and living room, as well as the dining room of the Palace.
Such articles as a folding screen, Mishō (bed), Zushi (cabinet), Sugoroku (game board), Go board, Koto (Japanese zither), and a glass vessel were restored by modeling the actual sizes and shapes of each original Shōsō-in treasure; meanwhile the designs of the carpet and Kicho (partition made of fabric) were recreated, taking the patterns of clothing fabrics of the Shōsō-in treasures as a model.
In addition, displayed near these furnishings, are restored precious artifacts excavated from the Nara Palace/Nara Capital including a mirror, Hiōgi (lit. folding fan made of hinoki cypress), comb, Kanzashi (ornamental hairpin), Kotoji (bridge of koto, the Japanese zither), Suzuri (inkstone), etc. Please enjoy the gorgeous joint appearance of the treasures having remained on the ground/underground.
