Kure hashi
呉橋

Wu-style bridge


An ancient Chinese style bridge, named after the southern Chinese kingdom of Wu (the character for which is also pronounced "Kure" in Japanese). According to the chronicle Nihon shoki, compiled in the eighth century, Michiko no Takumi, a man from Baekche on the Korean Peninsula, made this type of bridge as well as a replica of Mt. Sumeru in the palace garden of Empress Suiko in 612.
