Dates of birth and death unknown. It is written in the chronicle Nihon shoki, compiled in the eighth century, that he was from the Korean Peninsula and built a Wu-style bridge and a replica of Mt. Sumeru in the south garden of the Oharida palace in 612. This is thought to be the oldest reliable documentary reference to garden building in Japan.
