ashimoto tōrō
足許燈籠

foot lantern


A small garden lantern placed to provide lighting at one's feet. Neither style nor form matters; buried lanterns and legless lanterns are often used. It is placed by the waterside, at a boat landing, around the entrance of a building, and at the side of a path.
