ikekomi tōrō
生込み燈籠

buried lantern; planted lantern

A style of stone lantern having no base, and a shaft buried directly into the ground. As a type of garden lantern, it is often used as a crouching basin lantern or a foot lantern because the height can be adjusted according to the depth buried. The Oribe lantern is representative of this style.
