oki dōrō
置燈籠

legless lantern


A stone lantern composed of a roof and a lamp housing, and sometimes with a platform, but not standing on a shaft or legs. It is used for lighting paths, and areas near the water's edge or buildings. The promontory and ball lantern styles are examples of this type.
