砂雪隠

sand privy

A lavatory placed in a tea garden. It is not for practical use, but ornamental. About six feet square, it has four stones placed at its center: the mae ishi for the right foot, the ashikake ishi for the left foot, plus stones called shōyōgaeshi in front and uragaeshi in back. When a tea ceremony is held, it is cleaned up for the guests to appreciate visually.
