Rikugien
六義園

Rikugien garden

A daimyo garden built by Yanagisawa Yoshiyasu over a several year period from 1695. This garden was composed of eighty-eight landscapes based on waka (Japanese poems). Large and small islands are placed in the large pond at the garden's center, and the large artificial hill surrounded by the pond and watercourses was a good place for viewing Mt. Fuji and Mt. Tsukuba. With various garden elements such as cascades and torrents, it has a superb composition allowing visitors to enjoy changes in scenery when strolling the garden paths. Rikugien garden is designated a special scenic spot, and located in Bunkyō ward, Tokyo.
