Konchiin teien
金地院庭園

garden at Konchiin temple

Konchiin is a temple within Nanzenji temple, revived by the priest Sūden in the early Edo period (seventeenth century). The dry landscape garden located to the south of the abbot's quarters was designed by Kobori Enshū, and built by Kentei. A worshiping stone was placed in the center of the garden, with a tortoise island to its left and a crane island to its right, and a large cluster of pruned trees as background. It is designated a national special scenic spot, and is located in Sakyō ward, Kyoto.
