Fushin'an teien
不審庵庭園

Fushin'an garden

Fushin'an is a mansion with a teahouse and tea garden, belonging to the Omote Senke tea ceremony school. It was built in 1594 by Shōan, son of Sen Rikyū, and the teahouse and garden were possibly made at about that time. It later burned down in 1788, and for the most part was subsequently reconstructed and renovated, but a part of the garden retains its original flavor. The design of the pass-under gate separating the inner and outer tea garden sectors, and the sunken basin arrangement, are very famous. It is designated a national scenic spot, and is located in Kamigyō ward, Kyoto.
