Tekisuien
滴翠園

Tekisuien garden

A pond garden located in the southeast corner of the Nishi Honganji temple precinct, centered on the three-storied building Hiunkaku, said to have been transported from Toyotomi Hideyoshi's palace, Jurakudai. The garden was built between 1611 and 1617, and renovated repeatedly afterward. The pond spreading to the north of Hiunkaku is called Sōrōchi, and is thought to have been used for boating. The western part of the present garden was built in the late eighteenth century, and is connected to Sōrōchi pond. It is designated a national scenic spot, and located in Shimogyō ward, Kyoto.
