Shiratayūgata tōrō
白太夫形燈籠

Shiratayū lantern


A type of hexagonal stone lantern based on an original standing in front of the Shiratayū shrine, at Kitano shrine in Kyoto. The original is said to date from the Kamakura period. The subjects represented on the faces of its lamp housing are: the sun with clouds, the moon with clouds, a pine tree, a plum tree.
