karikomi
刈込み

pruning; pruned tree

Shaping trees and bushes by trimming; the plants thus trimmed. It is generally expected that the cut leaves will bud all at once. In Zen temples from the mid-Muromachi period, trees were pruned intensely as an important element of dry landscape gardens, and such pruning was called komi.
