Nanko kōen
南湖公園

Nanko park

Lake Nanko is an artificial lake built in 1801 by the lord of the Shirakawa domain, Matsudaira Sadanobu, by damming up the Tanita river. Cherry and maple trees were planted around the lake, and the surrounding hills and the Nasu mountains to the west were introduced into the garden as borrowed scenery. Nanko Park was opened to the public from the very beginning. It is designated a national historic site and scenic spot, and is located in the city of Shirakawa, Fukushima prefecture.
