One of the three most famous scenic spots in Japan, located in the city of Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima prefecture. It is a small island located in the Inland Sea, in the southwest part of Hiroshima bay, and the buildings of Itsukushima shrine on its northern shore retain the atmosphere of a shinden style residence. It is designated a national special historic site and special scenic spot, and is inscribed on the World Heritage List.
