mat wrapping

1) A method of trunk wrapping, using a straw mat.
2) Wrapping the trunk of a pine tree for winter with a straw mat, placed at 1.2-1.5 meters above the ground. Taking this measure at the beginning of winter draws caterpillars of the pine moth to the mat, so that removing the mat and burning it before the weather turns warm helps rid this pest wholesale. In gardens with many pine trees, the contrast between the trunks and the mats can enhance the winter garden scenery.
