A key tree planted near a stone lantern to enhance its charm. A winged spindle tree (Euonymus alatus) or spindle tree (Euonymus sieboldianus), or Enkianthus perulatus is often used. A shape which can be appreciated even during its period of defoliation is desirable. This tree is mentioned in Tsukiyamateizōden (zenpen).
