kuzure ishizumi
崩れ石積み

irregular stone piling

A building technique for stone walls and foundations, in which natural stones are piled in irregular fashion to look as if almost ready to tumble down. The surfaces of the stones are best if uneven and varied, but in general the top edge is made to form a straight line that sits directly above the one defined by the stones at the base, while the stones in between are piled to form a series of concave arcs.
