Eishū
瀛州

Eishū island


Yingzhou in Chinese. One of three sacred islands, together with Hōrai and Hōjō islands, in the cult of immortality in ancient Chinese philosophy. It is an imaginary island in the East China Sea where the immortals dwell. It is also called Tōei island. This island is sometimes depicted in ponds of Japanese gardens.
