bamboo

A general term referring to bamboo, such as giant timber bamboo (madake), henon bamboo (hachiku), and Moso bamboo (mōsōchiku). The history of planting bamboo in Japanese gardens goes back at least to the Nara period, according to poems in the ancient Manyōshu anthology. After cutting, bamboo is used in the form of round bamboo and split bamboo as a garden material, and is utilized for bamboo fences, bamboo conduits, deer-scarers, etc.
