1358?1408. Third shogun of the Muromachi bakufu. A capable statesman, his reign was the most prosperous time in the Muromachi period. His mansion Muromachidono was a magnificent structure complete with a garden, and called Hana no gosho. He purchased Kitayamadai mansion from the aristocratic Saionji family, renovated its garden and built the Kinkaku (Golden Pavilion). This was converted into the temple Rokuonji (Kinkakuji) after his death.
