One of the three most famous scenic spots in Japan, located in the city of Miyazu, Kyoto prefecture. This sand bar, which is 40-100 meters wide and 3.6 kilometers long and projects into Miyazu bay, provides a landscape of white sand and green pine trees. It has often been used as a motif in gardens since the Heian period, and the Amanohashidate feature in front of Shōkintei at the Katsura detached palace is specially famous. It is designated a national special scenic spot.
