石幢

memorial pillar

A stone tower originally erected for the repose of the soul. There are two types: one is composed of a hexagonal or octagonal pillar, topped by a roof and a jewel finial; the other resembles a stone lantern. It is used for decoration in the garden in the same manner as a stone lantern.
